Life is not a Race; Waiting is still in Progress.

There are things in our lives we wish to end as quickly as possible. A minute-long plank or waiting in line at the grocery? We sometimes hate to be under the confines of time. When I was young, my elders would tell me to live my life to the fullest while I still had time. When I was older and finished school, the youngsters envied my freedom from all the academic stress. And now that I’m in my older years, my children would sometimes complain about their busy schedules and that they couldn’t enjoy time for themselves anymore. But do you know what my secret to a peaceful life is? It’s believing that life is not a race. No matter how hectic it is, the key to succeeding is taking it one step at a time.

Did you know that humans don’t actually multitask? We often wonder how we perform things like taking care of our children while tending to our businesses simultaneously… Well, despite our brain being so powerful, there is a limit to what it can do at a certain period of time. We create pathways for our brain to cater during what we thought was a multitasking phase. However, in reality, we are subjected to our attention being divided across the stimuli that need our focus. What do you do when you have a tight deadline waiting to be finished? When all of your friends are now one step ahead of you in life, owning houses, running businesses, and having children?

For someone who thinks the time is precious, it is important to know how, and I cannot stress this enough, to take things one at a time. Life is not a race; waiting is still progress. Every time you spend an hour by the doctor’s waiting area is a minute crossed for the purpose of having your medical appointment. Simply put, when you wait for something to happen and take things slowly, you are still making the necessary progress in growing. But, don’t mistake waiting for laziness!
